Simon has been continuously involved in coaching youth soccer at VYS for the past 6 years. He coached two of his girls all through the house program into travel, including both upper and lower teams in ODSL and WAGS (and multiple indoor and Futsal teams). As a coach during the inaugural Crossover season and several seasons thereafter he has experienced the evolution of VYS’s house-to-travel transition program and player progression through the Academy.
He holds an F license, Positive Coaching Alliance – Double Goal certification and will be working on obtaining the E license. On the administrative side, he was an active member of the VYS Executive Director Search committee, which interviewed numerous candidates leading to the first ever hire of the position. He saw that for the club to recognize its potential it needed to consider itself an association and hire a rofessional with experience in such management, organization, budgeting, business development and related fund raising.
Professionally, Simon has spent his entire 22-year career in the financial services industry. He is a Managing Director of Robert W. Baird & Co., Inc., a well-respected New York Stock Exchange member firm, and Partner with the Wise Investor Group. The team currently manages over 2.2 billion in client assets and provides a wide range of wealth-management services. In his role Simon is actively involved in investment policy and portfolio management as well as business development and management of the team’s 21 members.
I strongly believe in strength of body, mind and spirit and that lessons learned on the field can be as important as what is taught in a classroom. As a father of 3 girls, I’ve seen how a well-organized, nurturing and positive soccer program has helped them build self-confidence, develop strong friendships, and cultivate essential life skills such as teamwork, communication ability and learning how to handle adversity. Most of all, if it’s not fun or entertainment for the kids and parents, alike, then we’re doing something wrong!
VYS is at an important juncture in that the professionalism of the club has improved significantly, while we are all still adjusting to new leadership and roles of both professional staff and volunteers. I continue to believe VYS is uniquely positioned in the local area as a community-based club that provides opportunity for both elite players and those looking to play less competitively. I look forward to contributing to VYS as a member of the Board and coffering my myriad of skills to furthering an already great club.
