Here are some highlights from the weekend.

VYS U8 Girls

All StarsVYS U8 Girls Team Dynamite

The U8G Vienna Dynamite had a great tournament with 3 wins and 1 tie. Each and every player displayed outstanding skill, effort and teamwork.

The best game was a 3-3 tie against Herndon when the Dynamite came back from a 3-0 half-time deficit to completely dominate the second half and were extremely unlucky not to snatch a victory !

Coaches Dave Shiells and Jenny Erdmann are extremely proud of these young All Stars !

They started Saturday with a 6-2 win against PWSI, followed by a 5-3 victory over FPYC.

Sunday morning the Falcons shut out SYA 6-0, which left them with the afternoon "championship" game against the only other undefeated team in their group......SOTH.

With a goal in the last 2 minutes, the VYS Falcons secured a thrilling 3-1 victory!

Their coaches and parents were proud that the Falcons played smart, played hard, and played as a team to the final whistle of every game. Great job Falcons!

VYS U10 Boys Team Red

All_StarThe Vienna Youth Soccer (VYS) U10 Boys Red team earned a spot in the championship game this past weekend at the Fairfax Police Youth Club (FPYC) Fathers Day All Star Tournament.

The VYS U10 Boys Red team, representing players from 4 different house teams, worked hard for 2 weeks to prepare for the tournament and were rewarded with a victory in the first game on Saturday in a close 2 to 1 win over Valley Storm, a crushing 2 to 3 loss to Loudoun Black on Saturday afternoon, and then a solid 7 to 5 win over NVSC on Sunday morning that put VYS in the Championship game.

They faced Sterling Orange, the only undefeated team in the division; they had scored 12 goals and allowed only 1 goal against in the 3 games leading to the Championship.

The team gave it everything they had but found it hard to get past Sterlings solid defense and even harder to slow down their multiple, well organized attacks. In the end VYS accepted a 3 to 1 defeat knowing they left it all on the field.

It was a beautiful weekend for soccer and each of the players was awarded a Finalist Trophy. The VYS U10 Boys Red All Stars are: (front row, from left to right) Christian Geiger, Koya Obata, Aidan Cuadra, Joshua Gutenson, Dayson Pineda and Eyad Almofadhi, (back row, from left to right) Gray Wilbricht, Jake Sadler, John Link, Coach Alex Gutenson, and Soren Almquist.

VYS U11 Boys Team

All StarsThe U11 Boys had a great tournament. Our VYS team defeated the other 3 teams in our group: Annandale 3-0, Loudon 6-1, and NVSC 3-0.

In the championship, we faced a tough team from SYC. The championship was a well fought game. In the last 5 minutes, the other team scored on us. The boys definitely put everything into that last game. A little more luck on the day and it might have turned out differently.

The boys truly represented VYS well, had fun, and played a great tournament.

The VYS U11 team were: Luke McClorey, Sabir Shamlal, Peyman Owrang, Mohammed Alturki, Heath Newton, Julian Vanderhee, coach Paul Newton, Andrew Rosia, Evan Zajkowski, Keegan Shirley, Abdu Stanton Facerias, Jose Castillo, David Saffer, and coach Sunil Shamlal

VYS U11 Girls Team White

The VYS U11G White team did an outstanding job in the FPYC tournament. On Saturday, they tied BRYC (who eventually won the tournament) 2-2 and lost to Loudon 4-2.

On Sunday morning, they defeated SYC 6-0. In the afternoon, they closed the tournament with a 0-0 tie against PWSI, a very physical game during which Vienna absolutely dominated the field but could not get past the other teams GK.

The team ranked 3rd at the end of the tournament. Each girl displayed remarkable skill and sportsmanship on the field - they played hard, smart, and together! Their coaches and parents are very proud.

VYS U12 Boys Team Red

All_StarsThe VYS U12B Red All Star team had a wonderful experience from start to finish in the recent All Stars Tournament.

With a team of 12 excited boys, only 2 with prior tournament experience, we forged ahead, winning the first game, losing the second and tying in our final game. The boys played hard, smart and met every challenge with heart and a smile.

Our parents were very supportive and cheered loudly no matter the score. GO VIENNA signs, red and black shirts and shouts of encouragemet lent itself to exciting and challenging games.

From start to finish the whole VYS experience was again very good this year, with some outstanding officiating, great organizers and solid fields to play on....and of course, the weather could not have been better! Just a great weekend all around and our kids and our familes walked away with a great experience and some great memories.

VYS U12 Boys Team White

All StarsThis was a rewarding experience for the boys who experienced many ups and a big down during this tournament.

The team went 3-0 to make it to the championship game. Each boy played his part andthe team gave it theirall. They showed a lot of character and camaraderie, especially in the championship game. They had beaten the other finalist the day before but had to come back from an 0-3 deficit to force overtime where we eventually lost.

I credit their efforts to their great parents and house coaches. VYS produces some very classy players. Our parents were very supportive throughout the practices and games. We had a fantastic team manager and assistant coaches. I am very proud of these boys and VYS. This tournament was a well run event and will be one they and I will remember for a long time.

Team One, coached by Barry Fitzpatrick, shut out McLean, FPYC and defeated NVSC on their way to the final to meet up against Arlington.

Team Two, coached by Jill Maroney, had shut outs against BRYC and Chantilly and earned their spot into the final against Loudoun.

During championship matches, both Vienna teams were tied against their opponents at the end of regulation and the games went into overtime.

At the end of overtime, the scores remained tied, and the games went into penalty shoot-outs.
